iOS 10 or later
Android 10.0 or later
GNARBOX 2.0 SSD
For optimal performance, we recommend keeping your Apple and Android devices up-to-date with the latest operating system available. Older versions of iOS and Android may experience suboptimal performance with the GNARBOX App.

GNARBOX App Overview
The GNARBOX App puts the file management tools you need in your pocket, giving you full control over your cards, drives, files, folders, and transfers while you’re on the go.
(a) Task Manager - this screen shows you active, queued, and past tasks, including transfers, copies and file transcoding. You can also view the time remaining for active tasks.
(b) Browser - this screen displays all of your connected devices and allows you to navigate, organize, and browse through your data.
(c) Backup Presets - this screen allows you to set up custom Backup Presets for import. A detailed tutorial on how to set up and use Backup Presets can be found here.
(d) Settings - this screen allows you to toggle various features on/off, maintain connection information, and perform updates.
Browsing Your Files
To view the contents of your GNARBOX’s internal SSD, a memory card, or a connected USB device, simply tap on the device in the Browser.
Similarly, you can navigate inside nested folders by tapping into these folders or reverting to the previous screen by hitting the Back button in the top left.
Preview a photo or video by tapping the file.
Sorting Your Files
When viewing files, you’ll see the option to Sort by Name. Tapping this gives you sorting options for your files. You can sort files by Name, Size, File Extension, or Date Created.
For example, if you are a photographer who shoots both JPG and RAW files you can utilize Sort by File Extension so that JPG and RAW files are grouped together. This is also very useful if you are someone who shoots both videos and photos.
To exit out of the Sort by menu, tap outside the white menu area.
Creating a New Folder
- Next to the folder or device name, tap the Quick Action icon (
) to view a series of options.
- Select Create New Folder.
- You’ll be prompted to enter the name of the new folder you wish to create.
- Select Done when you are finished.
Renaming Files + Folders
As a best practice, we do not recommend renaming files directly on a memory card. It is best to transfer the files to the GNARBOX internal SSD or a connected drive first before renaming the files.
To rename a single file or folder:
- Next to the file or folder, tap the Quick Action icon (
) to view a series of options.
- Select Rename File or Rename Folder.
- You’ll be prompted to enter the new desired name of the file or folder.
- Select Done when you are finished.
To batch rename files:
- Tap Select.
- Choose the files you wish to rename. You can also choose All if you wish to rename all files.
- Tap the Quick Action icon (
) from the menu to view a series of options.
- Choose Rename Files.
- Here, you can customize the name of your files, including dynamic DATE, EXIF and SEQUENCE variables and static TEXT variables. NOTE: Sequences can only be added at the end of the text string.
- Once you've built your desired syntax, an example preview will show above.
- When you're ready, press Save.
- The GNARBOX will generate your changes.
Deleting Files + Folders
To delete a single file or folder:
- Next to the folder or device name near the top of the screen, tap the Quick Action icon (
) to view a series of options.
- Select Delete File or Delete Folder.
- You’ll be prompted with a confirmation screen. Select Delete to continue.
Your file or folder will be deleted.
To batch delete files or folders:
- Tap Select.
- Choose the files or folders you wish to delete. You can also choose All.
- Tap Delete.
- You’ll be prompted with a confirmation screen. Select Delete to continue.
Your files or folders will be deleted.
Ejecting a Device
- From the Browser screen, select the Quick Action icon (
) next to the device you wish to eject.
- Select Eject Device from the pop-up prompt. Your device may notify you when Ejecting is taking place.
- When ejecting is complete your device will be removed from the screen.
Screen Orientation
GNARBOX apps are designed in landscape mode for tablets, and portrait mode for phones.
