The GNARBOX 2.0 SSD has two different modes of connectivity within the Connection Manager: Home Mode and Field Mode. These modes are made for specific environments and it's important to understand which mode is right for what you need in the moment.
Understanding Field Mode
What is Field Mode?
Field Mode means your GNARBOX's own WiFi signal is on and available to be connected to by your mobile devices.
When should I use Field Mode?
Field Mode is best suited for standard GNARBOX use: when you’re in the field, away from a local internet router.
Can I use the Internet simultaneously?
Because the GNARBOX uses your mobile device’s WiFi connection in Field Mode, you may not have simultaneous Internet access if your mobile device or tablet does not also have a mobile data plan.
Understanding Home Mode
What is Home Mode?
Home Mode enables you to connect your GNARBOX to a local Internet network. When in Home Mode, both your GNARBOX and your phone are connected via your local WiFi router, interacting through that network.
When should I use Home Mode?
Home Mode is best suited for use at a location with an Internet network or router. Using Home Mode allows you to move between various rooms at a location without losing connection to your GNARBOX.
In addition, Home Mode allows your GNARBOX to connect directly to the Internet, enabling features like uploading files to the cloud and downloading updates.
If it is your first time connecting to your GNARBOX, you must connect in Field Mode first before attempting to connect to the GNARBOX using Home Mode. This is a safety feature designed to require password access before connecting your GNARBOX to a WiFi network.
Can I use the Internet simultaneously?
Though both your GNARBOX and mobile device are connected via the local WiFi network, the Internet is currently only provided to the GNARBOX. To utilize the Internet simultaneously, you will need to use a device that has a data plan.
